Heels, Tears, and Baby, Oh My!

Balancing_Act___878914[1]

After nine long months, my husband and I finally brought our beautiful baby girl into the world. Soon, I was back in my car on my way to work, wiping away the non-stop flow of tears after leaving my precious baby for the first time. Six weeks maternity leave only felt like days. I would soon know how my daughter felt being surrounded by a strange and new world during her first moments of life. The thought of going back to work was …

Toss Your Sticky Notes! We’re Getting Efficient with Fuel Surcharges!

fuelchart6

I am a very lazy person. You think I’m kidding, but I’m the kind of person that doesn’t wear a coat, even when its negative degrees outside because I don’t want to have to deal with finding a place to put it when I get inside and I’m not cold anymore. I especially hate repetitive and tedious tasks, and will go out of my way to avoid them.  On my resume, this is listed as “constantly looking  for ways to increase …

Interline Shipments: Do You Know Where Your Freight Is?

Yellow_Truck_On_A_Map_

My morning has a pretty standard routine.  I’ve learned to never start my morning without a cup of coffee.  In fact there are some mornings I wish there was an IV drip hooked up to my arm.  I’m recognized at all of the local coffee shops and I all I have to say is, “I’ll have my usual, thanks.”  It’s kind of fun. It makes me feel like Norm from Cheers. My morning work routine is also set in stone and I rarely deviate from it.  …

Duckin’ and Dodgin’ TNL Style

Dodgeball

Winter is back, and that means it’s time for indoor sports! Last Wednesday, Team TNL participated in its 5th Dodge ball night. Once every two weeks, we get together for a night of competitive team building. Some nights it’s a basketball event, others nights a game of volleyball, and other nights the gymnasium is filled with Transcorr employees running around a basketball court trying to avoid getting beaned by dodge balls. To pass the time …

TNL Employee Appreciation Event

Team Building

On January 5, 2012, at an Employee Appreciation Event, the owners of TransCorr National Logistics treated our employees to food and beverage at Monkey Bar, located within The B.O.B, in downtown Grand Rapids for all of their solid work in 2011. Spirits were high as we ate a variety of appetizers from hummus to pot stickers. To preserve the positive attitude of Team TNL, “Restore the Corr” 2x2 meetings were created. Two people from the …

Why Should I Care About Freight Class?

I am a dork. If Dorkdom was a real place and not just a state of mind, I would be its mayor on Foursquare. I fully realized my new status while watching The Big Bang Theory with my husband. Right in the middle of the show, I paused the DVR (he would probably be mad if I didn't do this to him all the time) to tell him a work story that was so funny I could barely relay it to him. "Oh MY gosh, so today (giggle, giggle, snort), Brandon came over …

Fuel Price Effects on the Trucking Industry and Citizens

Diesel fuel is by far and away the “life blood” of the motor carrier industry. On average, motor carriers consume over 38 billion gallons of diesel fuel to move over 10 billion tons of freight annually. Diesel fuel represents the highest expense of a trucking company other than labor costs and can account for up to 25% of the total operating costs of a single business. There are not many industries that feel the direct effects of an ever …
