Danielle I'm so happy to see everything turned out as good as it did.

Being a guest lecturer at GVSU was my way of giving back. TransCorr gives back time and time again by offering great internships to up and coming talent. It was the one thing I took away on my first interaction with the TransCorr team.

On my first visit to TransCorr's Grand Rapids office, many employees I met had started as interns. Not only were they still there, the management knew them by name and knew what they liked to eat for lunch. The fun atmosphere and happy employees left a lasting impression.

In life and in business it is the little things that make all the difference. I'm glad your experience at TransCorr has been as positive as the first impression I had at TransCorr.

Hi Craig. Thank you for posting this great article. I work in a transportation group for a Global manufacturer . I recently came across a white paper published by Active Scout Technologies entitied "Managing Your Transportation Risk". The article indicated attorneys often use SMS scores to go after shippers in accidental death lawsuits. Are you aware of any recent filings against a shipper for not doing their due deligence in ensuring adequate SMS scores for their carrier base? I've tried to research actual lawsuits of this kind but have come up empty handed.

Thank you,
Dave

Thank you for your feedback! I agree that there are clients that want price only. As you stated, the point of the blog was to choose a 3PL if a client wants a sales rep to do the work for them. Our company provides a customer with the opportunity to have personalized service, but also be able to obtain mulitple carrier pricing, book a carrier, and print a BOL themselves. It's a wonderful array of services that we provide.

Kate, I am sorry, but I have to disagree, but I wish you were right.

I sell for both a 3PL and a "DIY" carrier and they both have their advantages. IF your customer appreciates personalized service, pick up and delivery confirmations, ...etc then a 3PL is great, but there is a cost to that service.

The DIY carrier provides prices and transit times in less than a minute. I just typed in a sample shipment of 2 pallets, total weight of 1200 lbs, class 70, traveling from Baltimore MD 21223 to Hazelwood MO 63042. In seconds I was looking at the pricing and service times of 7 different carriers, with prices ranging from $198 to $385, all with the same transit time of 2 days. Print the BOL from the website, and wait for the truck, not even a phone call required. How much easier can it get? (no need for an intern)

What I have found selling for both is, finding the client that values the personalized service of a 3PL is the tough part, but unfortunately, there are a lot more clients out there that are only looking at the price.

Like I said in my opening line, I wish you were right, but the vast majority considers freight to be a necessary evil, and the cheaper they can get, the better.
